Wearing Jubba: is Sunnah or Arab custom?
Wearing Jubba: is Sunnah or Arab custom?
Dr. Anayetullah Abbasi
Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade the wearing of silk and yellow coloured dress. So is there any guidance in Islam about clothing? Of course there is. In the Umdatul kari sarhe sahihil Bukhari_
احب الثياب الي رسول الله ﷺ القميص
"The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to wear Kamis".
Then we can say without hesitation that it is sunnat to wear Jubba or Kamis. Now those who said that there is no specific dress in Islam. They want the wisest Islamic scholars to become like master maulvis. That is, Islamic scholars should wear pants and ties. If this is the case then they will not get any invitation in Bangladesh. And for this they themselves are not wearing pants, shirts, ties. However, the fatwa is continuing. If one day the environment is like Egypt. There, wearing a shirt and pants, the Imam went up to the Mimber to giving speech.
Clothing is mentioned in the Qur'an. When prophet Yusuf's (salam to him) brothers fabricated a story after killing Yusuf (salam to him) and the dress they brought with them, Allah Ta'ala also called it a Kamis in the Qur'an.
وجاءوا علي قميصه بدم كذب
"They brought false blood-stained Yusuf's (salam to him) Kamis to Hazrat Yaqub (salam to him)". Sura Yusuf-18.
Now we understand that wearing Kamis is the Sunnah of Prophet Yakub (salam to him) and Prophet Yusuf (salam to him). Hazrat Yaqub (salam to him) not only wore it himself but he also saw his father wearing it. Then it is quite clear that the Jubba and kamis are not only the dress of the Arabs but also the dress of every prophet who came before the advent of Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is the Sunnah of all the Prophets. Allah has said elsewhere.
اذهبوا بقميصي هذا
"Go to my father with this shirt of mine." Here too Allah has used the word Kamis. So jubba or kamis is the dress based on Sunnah. Muhammad (peace be upon him) specified what our dress would look like. Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) was asked about what kind of clothes a Muhrim person who is going to perform Hajj can wear and what kind of clothes he cannot wear. Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) replied_
لا يلبس المحرم القميص ولا السراويل ولا البرنس ولا الخفين
"The muhrim (who is going to perform Hajj) will not wear Kamis, selwar, burnas and khuffain." (Sahih Bukhari-5793)
It is clear that Muslims other than Muhrim can wear these dresses.
So how do they say that there is no dress based on Qur'an and Sunnah in Islam. Anyone can wear whatever he wants. If shirts, pants can be worn, then Mr. Maulvi, give a fatwa this time that dhoti of Hindus can also be worn. If it is permissible to wear shirt pants. So where is the problem of wearing dhoti? If you wear the dhoti a little longer up to the ankles. No more problems. These are the fatwas of the Orientalists. The people of Bangladesh will not accept these.
Finally I will say four types of dress. 1. لباس السنة Sunnah based dress. If you wear it, you will continue to get goodness with every breath. 2. لباس التقوي Taqwa based dress. Which is close to sunnah but not perfect sunnah based. However, there is no similarity with any infidels. Such as Panjabi selwar etc. There is no problem to wear these. 3. لباس الكراهية disliked dress. Such as Pant and shirt. It is better not to wear these. If these are mandatory as an official dress, they can be worn. Care must be taken that the cloth does not go below the ankle. 4. لباس الحرام Such as The kamis is worn under the ankles, following the followers of different religions, wearing a tie, dhoti like the Hindus, wearing a turban without a hat, wearing red, yellow colored cloth for men. These are haraam clothes. May Allah grant us the tawfiq to follow the Sunnah. Allahumma Amin.
